An Explanation Of Counselling. logo2

''Freud called it 'The Talking Cure''... Anyone, at one time or another, may feel that life seems temporarily overwhelming. Many people find that counselling can help.

There are many different types of counselling. What they have in common is that they are all treatments based on talking to another person. Counselling is a confidential relationship that provides you with a safe and consistent space in which to explore and understand particular issues and difficulties.

It can help you resolve emotional conflict, change negative thinking and behaviour, and support you in making positive choices. psychotherapy can help integrate difficult and painful experiences, enabling you to enjoy a more fulfilling relationship with yourself and others.

Do you need to be mentally ill or very depressed to have psychotherapy?
No. Whilst it is true that some people turn to counselling in times of crisis, others enter therapy asking questions such as; "I feel stuck in my life" or "something's wrong, but I don't quite know what it is". What is psychotherapy?

Therapy offers you a safe, confidential place to talk about your life and anything that may be confusing, painful or uncomfortable. It allows you to talk with someone who is trained to listen attentively and to help you improve things.

The psychotherapy gives you the opportunity to express yourself to someone who is separate from the rest of your life, who won't be overwhelmed or shocked by what you say, and won't start to tell you what to do. It is my job as your therapist to help you find the right path that works for you, and not to worry about other peoples views or opinions of you.
Why should I see a counsellor?
There are times when the understanding of a good friend may be just what you need. However, when the degree of emotional pain and the severity of symptoms suggest a problem of a greater depth, then your pain, anger or confusion may be too painful for a friend to listen to without judgement.

This session will last around 60 minutes, and at this session the time and day of future sessions and the fee will be agreed. The duration of each subsequent session will be 50 minutes.
